Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, concluded a productive three-day visit to Germany from 6th to 9th October 2024, coinciding with the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC). This visit emphasized India's commitment to renewable energy and global sustainability efforts.
On 7th October, during the HSC, Shri Joshi delivered a keynote address highlighting India’s advancements in renewable energy, including the International Solar Alliance (ISA), which has garnered support from over 100 countries. He stressed the importance of international collaboration in addressing challenges related to the global energy transition.
Throughout his visit, Shri Joshi engaged in bilateral meetings with several key global leaders. He met with Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany and Mr. Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to discuss opportunities for enhancing cooperation in the green energy sector. He also had discussions with Dr. Robert Habeck, Germany's Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, focusing on green hydrogen and offshore wind energy.
In addition, the Minister interacted with representatives from various countries, including Egypt, Uzbekistan, and the UK, to discuss strategies for sustainable development and energy transition. These meetings underscored India’s leadership role in renewable energy initiatives.
Notably, the visit built on the momentum created at the RE-INVEST 2024 event, where India and Germany launched the India-Germany Platform for Investment in Renewable Energies. This platform aims to create new business opportunities and facilitate technology transfer in the renewable energy sector.
Shri Joshi’s visit has laid a strong foundation for deeper collaboration between India and Germany in renewable energy, reinforcing India's position as a global leader in sustainable initiatives and energy transition.
