President Of India Hosts Maldives President: Strengthening India-Maldives Ties

On October 7, 2024, President Droupadi Murmu welcomed H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The meeting underscored the special place the Maldives holds in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and SAGAR Vision.
During the reception, President Murmu emphasized the Maldives as a key partner in the Indian Ocean Region, reflecting the close ties between the two nations. She highlighted that the Vision document signed during President Muizzu’s visit would elevate their bilateral relationship, providing a clear roadmap for enhancing economic cooperation and maritime security. This would also expand opportunities for collaboration in digital payments and emerging technologies.
President Murmu noted India’s position as one of the top trading partners of the Maldives, acknowledging the strong trade relations between the two countries. She expressed optimism about future collaborations, especially in the areas of digital payments and new technologies, which have the potential to strengthen ties further.
Both leaders agreed that advancing the bilateral partnership would have mutual benefits for both nations’ citizens. Following their discussions, President Murmu hosted a state banquet in honor of President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.
This meeting marks a significant step in deepening the strategic and economic partnership between India and the Maldives, focusing on regional security, technology, and trade.
